Field trips are so important for building the background knowledge of students. We are lucky enough to have 3 or 4 field trips a year. This is one of my favorite trips we get to go on. We visit Gilcrease Orchard! They get to go on a hay ride, see how they make apple cider, find their way through a hay maze, and they even get to pick out a pumpkin to take home! They also get to leave with a delicious bottle of their homemade apple cider. I love this trip because we can reference it throughout the year in various activities we do, and some of my students have never been past their neighborhood, or have never even been on a bus! It's such a great experience. This year it was extremely hot (welcome to fall in the desert!) and my poor kids were all dripping sweat by the time they had their pumpkins picked out. I kept thinking in my mind about fall in Vegas, versus fall in North Dakota (where I am from). My kids here complained about being hot, and I'm sure my kids in ND would complain about being cold! ;)
If you have never been to this wonderful place, I recommend it! I especially recommend the delicious pear cider! Yummmm!
