I love celebrating different heritage months, and this one is especially close to my heart. We have a very large Hispanic population, so today marked the day to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo! My kiddos were encouraged to wear their authentic Mexican attire, and/or red, white and green. We created an academic day surrounding their culture and this celebration. We created projects from the flag of Mexico, an Aztec mask by coloring the Spanish words, a comprehension activity using evidence from the text to answer questions about Cinco de Mayo, and to top it all off, we made our own guacamole! We also created a flow map of the steps to make guacamole as we ate it. It was an awesome day! I learned a lot from them as well! Ole!
