Project based learning is A-MAZING! In honor of African American History month, I presented my students with a list of famous African Americans and told them to pick one and find out all they could about their person, and create a project to show what they know. They all came up with these mind-blowing presentations, even the administration was blown away. They worked hard using the researching strategies and how to pick out key details I had front loaded them with, and were proud of what they had accomplished. They presented the information to the class (for a grade) and as a celebration, we created a gallery for the other 2nd graders to come visit, as well as admin. They then worked in a team to come up with a ranking (which African American is the most important to the least- in their opinion, with written justifications). WONDERFUL! This was one of my many proud teacher moments!
A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.
